Last Sunday the city paralysed by a heat wave woke up: the final of the Tour de France arrived to Paris.
Versaillesta startannut sadannen Tour de Francen finaali järjestettiin poikkeuksellisesti iltakisana. Pyöräilijät saapuivat kaupunkiin Seinen rantaa pitkin päätyen Champs-Elyséesille, jossa vedettiin ympyrää Riemukaaren ympäri. Ikävä kyllä helle oli edelleen puoli kahdeksan aikaan illalla niin tukahduttava, etten jaksanut lähteä maaliviivalle saakka, vaan päädyin kävelemään sata metriä asuntoni vieressä Seinen ylittävälle Pont de Bir-Hakeim -sillalle. Sielläkin oli porukkaa. Kaikki odottivat hiljaa jännittyneinä, jotkut virittivät kameroittensa asetuksia.
The final of the 100th Tour de France started from Versailles and it was exceptionally organised in the evening. The cyclists arrived to the city by the river Seine and followed it up to the Champs-Elysées, where they circled around the Arc de Triomphe. Unfortunately it was still so warm at half past seven in the evening that I didn't have the energy to walk all the way to the finish line. Instead I ended up going to the Pont de Bir-Hakeim bridge that's right next to my apartment. There were people there too. Everyone was waiting in silent excitement, some were checking their camera settings.

Sinne menivät! Kaikki oli ohi nopeasti, mutta oli silti hienoa olla osana tätä legendaarista tapahtumaa, etenkin sen 100-vuotissynttärinä. Onnea Kittelille Pariisin etapin voitosta ja Froomelle Tourin voitosta!
There they go! It was quickly over but it was still great to be a part of this legendary event, especially on its 100th anniversary. Congrats to Kittel for the Paris win and to Froome for the Tour win!
