Derniers jours à Lille

Kun lähtö lähestyy, arkiset asiat muuttuvat yhtäkkiä hohdokkaiksi. Tässä muutama kuva, jotka räpsin viimeisinä päivinäni Lillessä. Ne ovat huonolaatuisia ja ne kuvaavat ehkä tylsiä asioita. Silti minun oli pakko ottaa ne. Jaan ne teidän kanssanne, koska ne kertovat jotain siitä, miksi rakastin elämää Lillessä.

When the time of the departure draws near everyday things start to seem special. Here are some photos I took during my last days in Lille. They are of a bad quality and they might portray things that are boring. Still, I felt the need to take them. I'm sharing them here because they tell something about why I loved life in Lille.

Se, mitä Pohjois-Ranskan ihmisistä sanotaan on totta: heillä on suuri sydän. Kaupungissa on tunnelma, joka tarttuu sinne muualta tulleisiinkin. Vaikka Lille ja monet sen lähialueet ovat köyhiä, eivät ihmiset pelkää jakaa sitä mitä heillä on. Rikostilastot voivat kertoa omaa tarinaansa, mutta minä en koskaan kohdannut muuta kuin ystävällisyyttä kaupungin kaduilla. Palaisin tänne mielelläni jonakin päivänä. Sitä odotellessa täytyy vain kiittää ch'ti-kansaa ja kaikkia niitä ihmisiä, jotka minulla oli onni kohdata Lillen Wazemmesissa asumieni yhdeksän kuukauden aikana. 

It is true what they say about the people of Northern France: they have a big heart. The atmosphere of the city catches even those who have come from far. Even though Lille and much of the surrounding region are poor, people don't hesitate to share what they have. Crime statistics may tell a different story but I myself never came across anything but kindness on the city streets. It would be a pleasure to come back some day. Until then, I can only thank the ch'ti people and everyone I had the privilege to meet during the nine months I lived in Wazemmes, Lille.
